In 2022, Andrés Bermúdez Liévano saw an opportunity. Having used our Understanding Company Accounts (UCA) eLearning course to nail an important story, Andrés believed that our course should be converted into Spanish. What's more, he was convinced that the organisation he worked for El Centro Latinoamericano de Investigación Periodística (Clip) should get involved. His boss, Clip founder and director, Maria Teresa Ronderos, agreed.
Both FU and Clip saw the potential for working together to create scale: if we could train and support more Latin American journalists and activists to understand company financial statements, the chances of holding power to account would increase.
Converting our 85,000 word eLearning course complete with animation, voice actor narration, graphics and case studies relevant to Latin American journalists was a major project. But the harmonious working relationship between FU and Clip ensured a highly successful outcome.
In January 2025, Finance Uncovered and El Clip’s strategic training delivery partnership completed its first pilot: A cohort of leading investigative journalists from across Latin America who took part in our new Spanish-language version of our flagship UCA course.
The resulting Spanish-language course provides participants with follow-the-money skills, knowledge and tools that are needed not only to analyse corporate financials but also to help identify and track ownership, including through shell companies.
The Finance Uncovered team continues to be involved as hands-on advisors to ensure the most effective combination of international investigative and editorial experience with local expertise and context.
