Hard hitting stories are produced as a direct result of our training. If you are in doubt, ask Andrés Bermúdez Liévano, who not only used new skills from our training to deliver investigations, but also has become a trainer on the course itself!
A highly respected environmental journalist from Colombia, Andrés joined a cohort of 11 other journalists from Latin America to take our Understanding Company Accounts eLearning course in May 2022.
When he discovered how and where to find company shareholder details using during our training, he had a lightbulb moment. He used his new knowledge to uncover how a powerful political family in the US – the Sununus – was linked to a prospective copper mine in a protected section of the Amazon.
Set to be the first legal copper mine in Colombia's part of the Amazon, Andrés established that one member of the Sununu dynasty was a board member of Libero Copper & Gold while another had a 10% stake in Libero's biggest shareholder. The story made NBC news and also ran with Mongabay.
Our working relationship went further and deeper. Andrés was the instigator behind the strategic partnership between FU and El Centro Latinoamericano de Investigación Periodística (CLIP) in which FU's Understanding Company Accounts course has been converted into Spanish and is to be delivered by CLIP.
